Dr. Ascough 1st anniversary party

Happy First Anniversary
Dr. Evelyn “Ybee” Ascough is joined by her husband Tim and their son Ymar as they celebrate her first year of practice in Hillcrest. Friends, family, business associates and patients enjoyed food, wine and a luscious dessert table featuring a fabulous chocolate fountain. Dr. Ascough’s state of the art offices are located at 3333 Fifth Avenue (just sought of Upas).

Hillcrest Sign repairs, Feb 6, 2006

The Hillcrest Sign repairs are underway!

California Neon came out this morning to repair the beloved neighborhood sign.
The center lane eastbound was closed at University and Fifth avenues for a few
hours while the worker removed one of the transformers. It takes four of them to
keep our landmark sign lit. Wet winter weather usually causes problems, but the
with only 1.42" of rain falling over the last ten months, the neon experts are scratching
their heads. After weeks of seeing only “HILL” glowing to the east, the Hillcrest BID
Executive Director Warren Simon says the “CREST” should be lit again soon.

Hillcrest Clean T.E.A.M.

(Together Everyone Achieves More)

Thanks to each of the 29 volunteers who came out to clean up Hillcrest on Super Bowl Sunday! Extra kudos to the Imperial Court and the Sunrise Rotary Club for sending a group. Please join us for the next community effort — we’ve committed to sweep Hillcrest sidewalks, alleys and gutters on the First & Third Sundays throughout 2006. Bring a broom and join the T.E.A.M.

GW recruiting in City Heights
“My assessment is that George W. Bush’s record on running up debt to burden our children is the worst since Ronald Reagan; his record on government surveillance of citizens is the worst since Richard Nixon; his record on foreign-military policy has gotten us into the worst foreign mess we’ve been in since Lyndon Johnson sank us into Vietnam; his economic record is the worst since Herbert Hoover; his record of tax favoritism for the rich is the worst since Calvin Coolidge; his record of trampling on civil liberties is the worst since Woodrow Wilson.”

San Diego Floral
San Diego Floral Association is seeking volunteers to help celebrate its centennial year in 2007.  All of their activities depend on the good will and participation of volunteers. An array of opportunities are available including working in the library/office, writing/editing for the magazine and arranging tours, classes or workshops. The “home” for volunteers is the Office & Horticultural Library in Room 105 of Casa del Prado in Balboa Park. Visitors may drop by any weekday and the first/third Saturdays of the month from 10am-3:00pm. It’s a great place to browse horticultural books or get advice. Planning is underway for a number of special events to mark the centennial, and many enthusiastic volunteers are needed. Consider giving your time to this wonderful organization.
