The project is going before the Planning Commission for approval next month. A group of concerned citizens are calling on the community to activate and physically pack this meeting with opposition. The Center’s first annual reportIt has provided needed services to San Diegans for over 32 years. On Monday evening the woman behind the recent success at the LGBT Center shared data about the organization’s efforts to reflect San Diego’s diverse community of in all aspects of its work. Dr. Delores Jacobs, Center C.E.O. spoke to the small group gathered in the auditorium of their Hillcrest home and outlined the basis for their goals and the progress in achieving them. |

Yesterday afternoon in Bankers Hill Friends and notables gathered at the home of City Commissioner Bruce Abrams to honor Nicole M. Ramirez on his ascension to chair of San Diego's Human Relations Commission. The Caliph and owner Sherman Mendoza provided the bar and yummy buffet. Nicole received commendations from councilmembers Ben Hueso and Toni Atkins and Assemblymember Lori Saldana. Mayor Jerry Sanders and State Senator Christine Kehoe also attended. |

![]() Update, San Diego’s oldest LGBT newspaper celebrated their 27th anniversary Saturday evening by throwing a community party at The Center. The occasion also acknowledged two unsung activists with Crystal Heart awards. Publisher Tom Ellerbrock recognized Suanne Pauley, former Executive Director of San Diego LGBT Pride, and Tom Abbas, co-owner of ExpressTax. Pauley was best known for her many years as a Pride volunteer before taking the helm as Executive Director from 2000-2005. Abbas has contributed his time, energy and experience with organizations such as The Center, America’s Finest City Softball League, Special Delivery, Hillcrest Mardi Gras and the GSDBA Charitable Foundation. |

![]() Isn’t it time to give peace a chance? Even
though rain had been forecast, beautiful weather prevailed for Saturday
afternoon’s peacefest and anti-war rally in Balboa Park marking the third long year since the Iraqi invasion and the
lingering war that continues to devastate the lives of thousands in
both of our countries. The North County Coalition for Peace and Justice
organized a “peace train” to the train station then demonstrators
marched to the park filling the corner of Sixth and Laurel as

mixer at Washington Mutual Bank at Fifth and Robinson on Thursday
evening hosted by (from left to right) bank manager Nancy Sardina,
Realtor Tony Azar, barista Tina Paulson and Glenn Hermans, sales rep
with Fidelity National Title Company. Mark your calendars for the next

Ole Kittleson and Brian Wells pose with the Starlight Theatre’s historic red box which was used as a prop in their 1946 opening performance. The initial show was such a great success that producer Billy Dean (a man of longstanding theatrical experience and therefore great superstition) decreed that the box must appear on stage in every successive performance. San Diego native Ole Kittleson, one of the founders of the San Diego School of Creative & Performing Arts, has performed in over sixty performances at the popular open air theatre in Balboa Park. Brian Wells has been artistic director for over a decade. Starlight’s 60th anniversary will celebrated this summer...so keep your eyes open for the red box!! |

famously antigay former aide to North Carolina senator Jesse Helms who
became a top adviser to President Bush admitted to an investigator that
he fraudulently returned merchandise to a department store, according
to charging documents. Target Corp. loss prevention manager Pete
Schomburg stopped Claude Allen, a 45-year-old native of Raleigh, N.C.,
on January 2 as Allen left the Gaithersburg, Md., store. Allen had
allegedly received a refund for items using a receipt from an earlier
