“It is time for San Diego County’s supervisors and local officials to find compassion, pull their heads out of the sand, and start making sensible, responsible policy decisions.”

Fourth/University

301 University decision postponed ’til 9/12
The struggle between pressure to build infill housing in urbanized areas and the backlash from citizens who say their neighborhoods weren’t built for that density...“Smart growth” means creating clusters that encourage pedestrianism and stimulate public transportation. But what good is the idea if people can’t leave their cars at home because the city has a woeful transit system and not nearly enough money to fix it? (CityBeat)
A continuance was granted until September 12 for the City Council to decide if 301 University (96 new condos, each with one parking space) is a go. The project will replace the one-story structures in this photo (Fourth and University) with a 12-story project. Perhaps new building projects should stop until San Diego’s community resources (especially public transportation and our aging infrastructure) catch up to neighborhood needs.
Conserve power and water.

Sixth/UpasUpas Construction

A huge crane blocked Sixth Avenue traffic at Upas Street yesterday as the large dormant hole was a-buzz with construction equipment. Mi Arbolito, a 14-story residential project at the northwest corner of Balboa Park, has been in litigation for the past few years.

Hillcrest Dental Centre

Stop by Hillcrest Dental Centre this afternoon and meet the neighborhood’s newest dentists. Doctors Timothy Rorman and Carlo Moreno are hosting an open house at the corner of Vermont and University Avenue in the Uptown District from 4:30-7:30pm. Enjoy refreshments, a tour...and you might even win a door prize.

“He put up something people could be proud of. He was always on the side of fairness, justice and consideration for everybody. San Diego is losing one of its best citizens.”

Vermont Street Bridge, Hillcrest

Sad. Someone vandalized the Vermont Street pedestrian bridge yesterday afternoon between noon and 2pm. It seems as if a car plowed down the two blue lighted batons on the north side of the bridge then proceeded to drive across the bridge and ran down the temporary aluminum post on the south side.

San Diego City Street Division took away the destroyed batons to see if they can be repaired. SDPD took a vandalism report. Steve Satz and other UHCA members have worked hard over the last year to raise funds for repairs to the south side of the bridge. If anyone witnessed this act, please contact the police department.

Help find these jerks!
