How do Hawaiians celebrate Christmas?Mele Kalikimaka In the Hawaiian language, Mele Kalikimaka means Merry Christmas. The song derived from the greeting was written by Robert Anderson in 1949. One of the earliest recordings of this song was by Bing Crosby with The Andrews Sisters the following year. It’s been sung by several artists including the Divine One — Bette Midler and a bunch of cute kids. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from all your friends at HillQuest |

Winter Solstice (“standing-still sun”) arrived at 4:22pm today... Our days will begin to lengthen tomorrow. Bundle up and join the San Diego Canyoneers pre-dawn Friday for an ascent of Cowles Mountain. The hike (less than two miles roundtrip) will take you to a Kumeyaay solstice observatory about halfway up the mountain for the sunrise on the first full day of winter. Another option is to stay in bed and support world peace by being part of Friday’s Global Orgasm project. Take a Winter Solstice quiz

Rain cancels Sunday morning Hillcrest clean-up Forecasted rain has called off the Hillcrest Clean T.E.A.M.’s final effort planned for Sunday, but we’re not done yet. Since the Hillcrest Maintenance Assessment District (MAD) services have been postponed until February...Cecelia and Luis Moreno, owners of the Crest Cafe, have stepped up to the plate and made an $800 donation to the Hillcrest History Guild to keep the volunteer Clean TEAM going for two more clean-ups in January (on the 7th and 21st from 10am-noon). Please join us in making the community look better. A party is being planned for everyone that has pitched in over the past 15 months. |
