Hillcrest Centennial T-shirts now available Black beefy T’s are $15 ($10 for students/seniors). Exciting plans are being made to celebrate throughout 2007. Want to become involved? Please contact us. Does the name William Wesley Whitson mean anything to you? (WWW’s photo is above the word “website” in our banner.) In the late summer of 1906, Whitson, 20, learned of a land bargain north of downtown and purchased the George Hill estate (40 stoney acres) for a mere $115,000. At the time, this neighborhood was called “University Heights.” Whitson subdivided his parcel and opened a small building at the corner of Fifth & University for his “Hillcrest Tract” office. The name caught on...and the rest is history. |

“What I’ve heard from the development
community is not many people are interested. The terms are not very
good. I think you might get a huge
tenement in the middle of Hillcrest.
And I’m not against affordable housing, but it should be spread
throughout the community.” —
Leo Wilson, chairman of the Uptown Planners, re: a mixed-used
development at the DMV

dubious integrity and inexpert performance that led the mayor to move Parks and Rec to the top of the restructuring list, and for reasons beyond the Fox Canyon
mess.” — from today’s U-T

![]() Sue Palmer & Laura
Jane Rocked North Park’s Rubber Rose with Songs of Love & Lust
It was a special
night on Ray Street as the Queen of Boogie
Woogie and
SD’s favorite songbird &
comedian
played to a sold out house. In their first two woman show
the
dynamic duo showed off their talents with two sets of melodies
dedicated to lovers. Laura Jane belted out both standards and cleaver
new creations... intertwined with Sue’s timeless boogie woogie piano.
As a bonus, the queen also treated the appreciative crowd with her
ukulele and accordion. Encore, please!
