“I’m not sure if our political candidates
for Council District 3 are ready and willing to serve this community.
We certainly know that they are ready because they have announced their
candidacy. So perhaps we need to establish a test of their
willingness.” — Hillcrest resident John Taylor

Join us at the Hop in the ’hood this SundayAll HillQuest fans are welcome to enjoy a neighborhood block party this Sunday, July 8 from 9am-6pm with great bands like D.A. and the Hitmen, Danielle Lo Presti and the Masses, Alicia Champion, Rhythm and the Method, Sven Erik Seaholm and the one and only boogie queen Sue Palmer taking the stage at noon. The mistress of ceremonies will again be the fabulous Laura Jane (and her magic karaoke machine). Come early and/or stay late for great dancing in the streets! The Flower Power Parade will be held at 11am. Get involved -- dress up a little wagon, trike or bike with at least half of the decorations being plants or flowers. No entry fee and great prizes along with the fun! Cake will be served at noon. Here’s a slideshow from last year. Kick back and enjoy your Sunday on the 3700 block of Seventh Avenue. |

I feel we must look to the future, there is a lot of development proposed and underway for the central corridor, from Laurel to Upas including market rate, subsidized and senior housing. We must imagine this area with a lot more people. Shopping, dining, walking and biking. This area is to be transformed in the next decade and we must plan for it. Currently cars rule this area, I live between Fourth and Fifth and to get to Balboa park I must cross seven lanes of traffic, some cars at near highway speeds. If we want this area to develop into a pleasant bridge between Hillcrest and Downtown we cannot continue to let the car be king. Narrowing streets, including bike lanes and planning for more efficient rapid transit is a must. Uptown resident Ken

Time Capsule Entombed Concrete has been poured at the south side of the Vermont Street pedestrian bridge as the repair work finishes up. The plaque for the Hillcrest Centennial time capsule has been set along with the lights. The plastic will be removed on today. On Tuesday, July 17 at 6pm the community is invited to a ribbon cutting and rededication following the recent renovations. San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts and City Councilmember Toni Atkins will be recognized for securing the grant money needed. Following the ceremony cake will be served. |
