Jersey Boys at the Civic Theatre “TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!” raves the New York Post for JERSEY BOYS, the 2006 Tony® Award-winning Best Musical originally staged by Des McAnuff at the La Jolla Playhouse. It’s the story about Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi. This is the story of how four blue-collar kids became one of the greatest successes in pop music history. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide – all before they were thirty! JERSEY BOYS features their hit songs Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Rag Doll, Oh What a Night and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. “IT WILL RUN FOR CENTURIES!” proclaims Time Magazine. A Toast to Hillcrest Hillcrest History Guild celebrated our community’s centennial last night in the grand ballroom at The Prado. National officials honored Hillcrest as one of the greatest neighborhoods in the country. Fabulous food, friends and unsurpassed entertainment filled a magical evening...and the guests — the best folks in the nation. A great thanks to all the community donors for the silent auction items and to everyone for pitching in to make this such a successful event. Here is HillQuest’s initial slideshow...more to follow. |

“Hillcrest is delighted to have our
neighborhood selected for this national honor. We’re lucky ducks to
live here. It has a special ‘sense of place’ and great bones. Our
residents are involved and willing to take the time to help make our
home an even greater place to live, work and play. We cherish
Hillcrest’s character, rich century of history, diversity and activism
with organizations such as the Hillcrest
Town Council and the Hillcrest
Business Improvement Association.” — Nancy Moors, co-founder of the Hillcrest

Hillcrest selected as great neighborhoodThe American Planning Association (APA) has announced that Hillcrest has been designated as one of Ten Great Neighborhoods for 2007. APA selected Hillcrest because of its legacy of activism and trendsetting. Considered one of San Diego’s most urbane neighborhoods, it has been and continues to be a source of social, cultural and political influence, particularly for gays and lesbians. From its start in 1907, experimental ideas and practices have taken hold here. Hillcrest was one of the places where the progressive designs of Arts and Craft-influenced architect Irving Gill were built during the early 20th century. The neighborhood also has works by Hazel Waterman and Lillian Rice, who were among the first women to practice architecture in the nation. Our residents are highly engaged, from establishing SD’s first business association to organizing clean-ups to getting involved with local planning issues. “We are honored that one of our most historic and dynamic neighborhoods is being recognized on a national level,” said Mayor Jerry Sanders. “Through a truly strong collaboration of residents, businesses and government, our efforts in community planning and neighborhood revitalization continue to enhance the quality of life in San Diego.” Hooray for Hillcrest, now we have more to celebrate! |
