“It is extraordinarily reckless to accuse Ms. Heumann, who as you know is a top-level city attorney, of violating city law without bothering to check whether your legal analysis is correct.”

Hillcrest community clean-up, October 13, 2007

Celebrating at Studio 34

San Diego’s finest gathered at the Marriott Hotel last night to celebrate The Center’s 34th annual gala. The A-list dined, danced, honored individuals and acknowledged accomplishments. Queen Mother Nicole Murray-Ramirez (at right, in his ever-present Jerry ’08 button) shares a smile with Michael Weiss, the proprietor of Bourbon Street and Lei Lounge, and Sherman Mendoza, Nicole’s good friend and owner of the Caliph Lounge.

Hillcrest community clean-up, October 13, 2007

Thanks for cleaning up Hillcrest!

A little bit of rain didn’t keep a couple dozen hearty volunteers from pitching in Saturday morning to spruce up the neighborhood. Two teams (this one made of I Love a Clean San Diego volunteers) picked up trash and LOTS of cigarette butts as they moved north from Upas while the Hillcrest Town Council team moved west from Park and University catching cigarette butts before they went down the storm drains. Thanks to everyone for getting out on a such wet weekend morning to make Hillcrest look so much better.

I have gone on record opposing 301 University (see below). It is out of scale. It sets a bad precedent, and it sends the wrong message to the community.”

It’s baaack, just like a scary Halloween movie...

Boo — 301 University returns!

Recently as Hillcrest was receiving national accolades from the APA for our community’s charm, village atmosphere & sensible planning, La Jolla Pacific Development resubmitted their plans for 301 University. The Uptown Planners have been informed that the developer has obtained a consultant to prepare an environmental impact report (EIR), which is required pursuant to the recent court ruling. In August San Diego’s Superior Court ruled against 301 and voided the City Council’s 7-1 approval of this monster project. The court found an EIR was needed prior to the decision-making process. The findings contained in the EIR may necessitate modifications to the 12-story project. It is important that Uptown Planners, as the official advisory planning group for our neighborhoods, again review the project after the EIR is finalized. If you think this project is wrong for Hillcrest, contact your City Council member.

“Don’t you find it bizarre that the sizable, noisy anti-Mike Aguirre crowd hasn’t yet found a high-profile candidate to run against the controversial city attorney in next June’s election?”
