The atmosphere is slowly clearing over Hillcrest, but the morning skies were still tinted with orange as the firestorm continues in east, north and south parts of San Diego County. Schools remain closed.

The Pet Palace (on Ray Street in North Park) held their fifth annual doggie halloween costume contest midday under smokey skies. Thirteen festive canines competed for prizes in the most creative, funniest and scariest categories.

Brushes fires have claimed at least fourteen lives, charred nearly 200,000 acres and destroyed at hundreds of homes.

This Irving Gill drawing shows a plan for a group of speculation homes built in 1912 for misses Lee and Teats. The “boulevard” through the center of the complex runs through what people now refer to as Kate Sessions Canyon.

The wacky realtors at Bankers Hill Properties were filled with high spirits at their vessel docks in Coronado for a scavenger hunt. This is the third year BHP has thrown a “road rally” for clients and friends. Much fun was had by all dancing to the Sue Palmer trio, winning great prizes and sailing around the San Diego Bay.
