Dozens of volunteers pitched in to spruce up the sidewalks and gutters of the neighborhood this morning. Benny Cartwright and his buddy Alex enjoyed a cookie before teaming up to help remove trash from the area.

John Billow and Lee Abrams picked up garbage along the south side of the Georgia Street Bridge. Hundreds of cigarette butts and numerous bags of trash were collected throughout eastern Hillcrest.

The next clean-up effort will be held in April at a date to be announced. To become involved in the Hillcrest Town Council Litter Committee please come to Bamboo Lounge this Friday at 4pm. Help keep Hillcrest looking great! Big thanks to City Deli for the cookies, Crest Cafe for the coupons, Councilwoman Toni Atkin’s office for getting the dumpster delivered and to HillQuest.com for the use of their electric buggies.

Stephen Whitburn & Todd Gloria, candidates running for District 3 Council Seat

City Council candidates Stephen Whitburn and Todd Gloria have pitched in on past volunteer efforts... and you can, too, from 9am-noon this Saturday.

Meet at 8:45am on Park Boulevard south of University Avenue (near the Egyptian) to help the
Hillcrest Town Council and the Hillcrest Clean T.E.A.M. sweep the sidewalks and gutters of the community for our next quarterly clean-up. Brooms and other supplies will be provided for the three-hour effort to spruce up our neighborhood. The first two dozen volunteers to show up will receive a free orange t-shirt. As a bonus you’ll also receive a greater sense of community pride. Councilwoman Toni Atkins has arranged for a dumpster to be available across the street in the parking lot of Numbers (3811 Park Boulevard). Clean out your garage, but no paint, electronics or appliances will be accepted.
