Crosses honoring the Iraq War dead

Local activists joined Veterans for Peace this evening in Balboa Park to mark the 4,000 lives lost by US troops in the Iraq war. 400 candles glowed from the corner of Park Blvd & Presidents Way as people for peace held a silent candlelight vigil along the park’s edge to honor the dead soliders.

“...both the City Council and planning commissions throughout San Diego have shown a remarkable propensity to support developers like Sunroad Enterprises in making vast profits at the expense of neighborhood character. Change begins at the voting booth. Our neighborhood has spoken with one voice to take a stand.”

Bring home the troops...no more war

Five long years of war
A candlelight vigil was held this evening on the western edge of Balboa Park (at Sixth & Laurel) to mark the fifth anniversary of the tragic invasion of Iraq. Those present called on our leaders to end the war and set new priorities for America.

Dulce Huicoch & the boyz at Jimmy Carter's Mexican Cafeea

Jimmy Carter’s Mexican Cafe moves
Faced with a tripling rent bill at their West Washington Street address in Mission Hills, Jimmy Carter and Dulce Huicochea have moved their staff and menu to JC’s original cafe at the corner of Fifth & Spruce (just a block west of the park).
After closing for one week to remodel, the colorful eatery is again open...and business is brisk. Weekend sales exceeded the popular restaurant’s previous record which was set during last year’s LGBT Pride celebration.

Tasty tip: try one one of Dulce’s homemade soups, an unbelievably delicious chile relleno or a yummy chicken enchilada topped with her Talaquepaque sauce.

“I honestly think (homosexuality ) is the biggest threat that our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam, which I think is a big threat.”
