Hillcrest in the rain

So are you enjoying the rain?

Or hating it?!? One thing is for sure...we needed it, and the landscape is happier. Forecasters said we may get over an inch of rain by the end of Monday, with more Puddling at Seventh & Robinson in Hillcrestexpected over the next couple of days.

A mudslide in Talmadge this afternoon prompted fears of evacuations. Mud flowing down the hill in the 4700 block of Aldine Drive threatened a large Eucalyptus tree and worried some residents.

The mountains could get as much as three or four inches of rain, with six inches of snow falling at about 4,500 feet.

University Heights carolers
Annual caroling in University Heights
tonight
Head on over to the north end of the Vermont Street Bridge beginning at 5:30pm this evening as “Caroling in the Heights” kicks off their seasonal songs for the neighborhood. The quartet will move on to Mystic Mocha (Mission Avenue at Alabama Street) at 6pm, then they will be singing again a half an hour later (6:30pm) at Monica’s, Adams Ave. between North Avenue & Park Blvd. before completing their last performance at The Point (Golden Gate Drive at Rhode Island Street). Enjoy this annual tradition from the UHCA. Don’t miss this holiday fun! Refreshments will be provided at each stop.

Chicken Tagine from Kous Kous, 3940 Fourth Avenue in Hillcrest

How about a tasty trip to Morocco?
With an intimate evening at Kous Kous, 3940 Fourth Avenue (below Martinis) you may enjoy a culinary getaway to exotic delights from halfway around the world without leaving Hillcrest. Your host Moumen Nouri and his outgoing staff will make you feel as if you’re at an intimate dinner party with bright, witty friends who will educate you about the cooking of their homeland. Our favorites are Lamb Shank Tagine with “Ras el hanout” & honey sauce, caramelized dry fruit, toasted almonds & sesame seeds and Chicken Tagine (right) wonderfully braised in garlic, ginger and saffron sauce, with olives & lemon preserves. Movie classics such as “Casablanca”, “Roman Holiday” or “The Man Who Knew Too Much” silently add to their homey ambience. Kous Kous meals are delicious, authentic and the perfect way to celebrate the holidays. YUM

“I am very concerned that there’s no reference to the layoffs and required time off without pay for staff at the LGBT Center....I can tell you as a concerned LGBT community member it is time for new leadership that reflects the current culture of inclusion, honesty, respect, transparency and integrity.”

“Many people in our community have called for a boycott of the Landmark Theatre in Hillcrest, and all other theatres owned by their parent company, Cinemark, because the CEO of the company gave $9,999 to the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign...(but) your only alternative choice to see Milk is to drive to Irvine.”
— Rob Klaproth in this week’s letters to the GLT
(actually Milk is playing at several other local theatres)

“It is ironic that on the very day Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was being arrested and accused of attempting to sell Obama’s Senate seat, San Diego should be going through the motions of electing a Council President that everybody knows was chosen months ago by our own version of the Chicago political machine.”
— Pat Flannery in his Blog of San Diego adding “the Murphy nightmare is back”

“I believe there is a new day on the City Council with the newly elected council members. There is just a real opportunity for our city to move forward.”

We have a new Councilman

In his address, Todd promised to represent our interests with his top priorities being public safety, improvements to streets and other public works.

Congratulations, Todd
