Post=Pride clean-up, July 2008

Hillcrest Town Council fundraiser this Monday morning after Pride weekend

Please mark your calendars for Monday, July 20 — beginning at 7am to join the After Pride Clean-up and help put the shine back on Hillcrest after next weekend’s Hillcrest Town Council logofestivities. Meet on Park Boulevard just south of University Avenue by the Egyptian. Pride will donate $10 per volunteer hour to the Hillcrest residents’ group. Call in late to work (if you’re lucky enough to still have a job) and pitch in as long as you can. Volunteers will sweep trash from the gay pride parade route and the surrounding area to clean up the neighborhood after Pride weekend.

Fun at Sunday’s Dyke March & Fest

Hundreds of dykes and their many supporters met at Balboa Park’s big fountain yesterday then marched to Ohio Street north of University Avenue for this year’s Dyke Fest, a free event for all ages which took place from noon until 6pm. A kiss-in took place at 3pm. Speakers included State Sen. Chris Kehoe & Abby Schwartz with entertainment by LMA, Rhythm Turner (at left), Jenn Jenn, Micha Cardenas, Nicole Torres, Abby Schwartz, Angie Evans, Tryce Czyczynska, Mary Dolan, Laura Jane, Rhythm & the Method and Bitter Sober. The fabulous Laura Jane (also at left) was Sunday’s mistress of ceremonies.
