“I
am a Hillcrest resident
on Richmond Street and have been watching with dread the transformation
of the intersection at 163 and Washington Street. I am very aware of
the problems this intersection has had as my apartment balcony used to
overlook the corner of Washington and Richmond and I was able to hear
and see just about every accident. However, I'm not sure I agree with
the City’s solution to this problem. For me to access 163, I have to
turn right onto Washington, then U-turn at Lincoln. Since the new light began functioning, this intersection has been a mess, and I’ve often had to sit in the intersection when it was my time to go. Although this has been irritating, it was doable. Yesterday on my way to work, I noticed that the City (or whoever is making these decisions) has decided to rectify this problem by retracting our right to make a U-turn at Lincoln. Now, in order to get to work every morning, I must either break the law or go out of my way to find another route to the freeway. Is there anything that can be done about this problem or anyone I can contact to express my concerns? I would appreciate any help you can give me.” Kris

Tacone
the funny little wrapped sandwich shop near Subway (at Fourth and Unversity) has
thrown in the towel. They were open last week, but their sign has quickly been removed from the strip mall facade. The show taping inside Whole Foods Market yesterday was Food 911. Episodes are listed on their website, so head’s up if you’re lucky enough to have extended cable. Welcome to Uptown Dental Designs and doctors Alice Booth and Craig Schindler who have purchased and remodeled new office suites on the northeast corner of Fourth and Pennsylvania. Med Grill in the old Hookah Lounge has their signage up and looks to be opening their doors soon. Just east on the same side of University Avenue is Margarita Marys (in the old Show Biz, Bee Jays, Montana’s, Seven spot) which is destined to be Hillcrest’s newest hot spot for summer! |

![]() Have you ordered the Subservient Chicken? (Have it “your way” with this chicken kinked up in garters!) Here’s some
favorites from last Saturday’s
Taste of Uptown.
• City Deli
reported 670 brownies and
lemon squares were devoured.
• Margarita
Mary’s wins our prize for the most festive restaurant, and they’re not
even “officially” open. They served margaritas and quesadillas to the
masses.
• David’s Coffeehouse patio again provided the best place to relax and eat an assortment of tasty cakes (and assorted caffeine beverages) under cover of the occasional spring shower. • Chef Deborah Scott who will have a recipe in HillQuest volume two was hard at work in Kemo Sabe’s kitchen creating their famous potted brownies to the crowds delight. • The parsley scallion hummus at Whole Foods was “oh so tasty.” • Taste of Thai served a delicious array of samples. • At Ben & Jerry’s everyone was giddy as they picked their favorite ice cream flavor. • Rocky Mt Chocolate Factory had a line out the door waiting to dip strawberries. • Sushi Itto, Nami and Ono Sushi all shared Japanese taste treats to the throngs. • Mama Tesa served up the most unusual...steamed potato tacos and colorful salads. |

this 1912
structure at the corner of Robinson and Third avenues which is now
high-end
condos, was first a church. Check out the building’s cornerstone on

Seventeen proposed or
approved infill
developments could bring as many as 1,043
new housing units to Hillcrest, North Park and University Heights in the next few years. The concentration of projects has the potential to transform our neighborhoods. |
