Unfortunately many palm trees along Sixth Avenue first planted by Kate Sessions nearly a hundred years ago toppled in the recent storm. The weight of the untrimmed date pods added to the problem. Some trees are still leaning precariously. |

Thursday’s stormy weather cleared over Bankers Hill for last night’s San Diego Pros monthly mixer at the businesses of Fortunate Fields and Shui Chiropractic & Wellness, located at 2720 and 2722 Fifth Avenue. Several dozen members and guests networked their businesses while enjoying the camaraderie, wine and tasty snacks. At the left, host Dave Yoshida owner of Fortunate Fields (proudly wearing his VIP, Very Important Pro, award) poses with the group’s social chair Nenette Agulto who owns a local franchise of Mr. Handyman. The open house overflowed next door into Shui Chiropractic & Wellness where husband and wife, doctors Brian Shui and Doan-Thy Dinh, had several education stations set up including a display which showed the difference in household cleaning products and acid vs. alkaline level in water. Acupuncturist Aimee Holdwick discussed the advantages of her care. Dr. Brian and Dr. Thy have helped people get well since 2007. Their business was founded on the premise that all people have the right to reach their full health potential and stay healthy naturally. Are you a dentist, realtor or optician? The group has openings in these areas. Please visit the San Diego Pro website for details. |

“To surrender the streets to cars is to
make it less safe for everyone left who chooses to ride. So my advice
to people is to get the information they need to be safer, and then go
out and ride. It’s better for
you, it’s better for the planet, it’s better for the community.”
— Kathy Keehan, executive
director of the San
Diego County Bicycle Coalition

“I felt I came very close to making a bad
decision. I came very close to showing the prejudice I obviously had
toward my daughter to my staff and to the people of San Diego...If government tolerates discrimination against anyone
it is very easy for citizens to do the same thing.” — Mayor Jerry Sanders testifying
at Tuesday’s Prop. 8 trial

“The budget process is a complex, messy
political process. To reduce it to a survey is fraught with problems.
In view of that, it’s incumbent on the people who are producing the
research, in this case, a pollster or polling firm, to do a really,
really good job.” — John Nienstedt, president of a
local polling firm, re: SD spending $24K for survey on service cuts

“I really believe it is a significant
public square and probably the most significant in San Diego — and
right now we can’t use it as such.” — Mike Kelly, president of the
Committee of 100, driving cars out of a gridlocked Balboa Park
