![]() A collision last Wednesday (March 30) at the corner
of Fourth and
Pennsylvania sent a car over the curb and into the side of the George
G.
Glenner Alzheimer’s day-care center,
rupturing the building’s gas line, igniting shrubbery and causing an
evacuation.
![]() The crash resulted in no injuries but plenty of excitement for the 15 elderly day-care center’s visitors and staff. Luckily, the Glenner’s administration headquarters are located just across the street assisted the evacuees. Additionally, eight nursing-assistant students were there for a disaster training program and helped with the evacuation. The scenario fit into the daily schedule for the center’s visitors who were taking an exercise class. The evacuees returned to the center two hours later, when city officials declared the building safe. “This Hillcrest corner is quite dangerous,” says CEO, Joy Glenner, left, with Missy, adding that the 23-year-old nonprofit organization has been trying to get a stoplight at the busy intersection for years. |

![]() It’s a beautiful weekend for the
SD Crew Classic
which
is underway on Mission Bay at PB’s Crown Point Park. Thousands of hunky college students and hundreds of boats (aka sculls) are racing. Grab your sunscreen and beach chairs for a fun afternoon watching these amateurs. Stop by Flicks tonight for the Gay & Lesbian Rowing Federation’s social from 6:30-8:30pm. |
![]() Park West resident and makeup man, Anthony Gordon, had an “out of this world experience” this week working on commercials for Burger King’s new Star Wars campaign. The ads feature Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, R2-D2 and C-3PO. ![]() The characters and
costumes were directly
from Lucas Studios, and Anthony was so excited to
finally meet R2-D2 that he couldn’t
help himself from giving the little droid a big bog kiss!!! The C-3PO suit was the same as the one on display at the Smithsonian Museum, but his favorite was Chewbacca! What a beast!! > In the TV commercials the Star
Wars
characters are new hires at Burger King.
Imagine trying to get Darth Vader to mop, getting Chewbacca to use a hair net or teaching a storm trooper to be a fry cook. We hear they will be very funny spots. Thanks for sharing, Anthony! |
