Amid
deepening federal probes into
city finances...three city officials involved in
the pension crisis calls it quits.
English-born mortician Percy Benbough was elected mayor in 1935. Four years earlier SD had adopted its new charter... one mayor resigned, another was jailed, three councilmen resigned, and we had four city managers. Sound familiar? — •

“Should
any
political party
attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and
eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that
party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group,
of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a
few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman
from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are
stupid.”

“I was
incredulous when I read the
recent GLT editorial saying ‘the GLBT
community may need to prioritize what is best for the city in lieu of
politicized issues concerning our community’ when considering for whom
to vote in the upcoming mayoral race. It left me wondering
when Tony
Zampella started writing editorials for the
Gay and Lesbian Times.”
