“I don’t believe in bussing people, I don’t believe in affirmative action and I don’t believe that people who are gay and lesbian or bisexual or whatever the hell they are have the right to call themselves some endangered class and have us make special laws. I don’t believe in hate crimes. If that sounds like part of the Christian Right, well, then, it only sounds like it, because I’m not part of that, but we happen to believe in similar things.” — Mayoral candidate NY Myke Shelby |

| Check out
the graphic! Airport planners have come up with an idea for developing a second runway at Lindbergh Field without Marine Corps property, but some say the notion is so outlandish it actually helps make the case for building a new regional airport elsewhere. |

![]() A
bust of John D. Spreckels was presented yesterday to Balboa Park’s
Organ Pavilion by Normal Heights sculptor
Claudio D’Agostino (left) and unveiled by
Marie Elizalde Peck (right) who is Spreckels’ great granddaughter. John
D. and his
brother Adolph donated the great organ over 90 years ago
prior to the formal opening of the Panama California Exposition. The
Spreckels brothers had a vision to inspire, uplift and enrich society
through great music. Free concerts continue to be performed every
Sunday afternoon at 2pm. The 18th annual Summer Organ Festival begins tonight at 7:30 and will be
held every Monday through August. Check out HillQuest’s calendar of events
for a list of artists. Ride your bike, take a picnic, enjoy our big backyard!

The dictionary
defines the word father as a male parent, but
every son or daughter knows that this definition is incomplete. In reality the word “father” is
one of the hardest to define.
A good father is many things: a mentor, a teacher, a fun factory, a chauffeur, a handyman, a policeman, a banker and much more. Being a truly wonderful father is a difficult thing. Most kids admire and look up to their dads throughout their lives. They learn by his example. “My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another
person...he believed in me.”
