Flashbacks new store in Hillcrest, August 2005

Flashbacks new (much LARGER) store opened this week at 3849 Fifth Ave, in the former space of Off the Record. The tranformation into a bright and welcoming resale shop for retro and current styles is complete with a video projector, fabulous sound system and swirling emerald floor that screams for dancing shoes!

Owner Natalie Cochran says that they’ll be staying open late during the week (9pm) and until 10pm on Friday and
Saturday nights...so stop by and check them out!

With the addition of a new Screen on the Green
Balboa Park’s Thursday night movies are back for the remainder of the summer. Next week’s free film will be the classic Shakespeare love story “Romeo and Juliet.”

Michael Aguirre has accused Lamont Ewell of failing to properly manage the contracts of city auditors. He said the law firm of Vinson & Elkins, which was hired to investigate the alleged wrongdoing, had 97 people bill the city for a combined $5.7 million over the 17 months of its investigation. The auditors are being paid $190-900/hour + expenses.

The mysterious black jellyfish has made its fifth known visit to Southern California shallows this summer when the huge (and extremely rare) gelantinous plankton suddenly appeared along

San Diego beaches last month, causing an upsurge in reports of swimmers getting stung.

They have a decent sting... but they’re certainly not deadly.

A helicopter successfully replaced the air conditioning units on top of 666 Upas this morning as Sixth Avenue from the park north to Pennsylvania was closed to vehicular and foot traffic.
