Uptown Sunrise Rotary Club fundraiserTim Stigers, Scott Borden, Scott’s partner Jim, Jane White and Tim’s partner Jaime (SD Uptown Sunrise Rotary Club members) smiled for the camera while generating $2,000+ at the club’s recent “Raise the Rent” party. The lively event was attended by almost a hundred guests who enjoyed the excellent cooking skills of past president, Dennis Filangeri, and the smooth jazz sounds of Femme Fusion. The cabaret-style party was held at the home of club treasurer, Regina Smalley, and her partner, Eurika Otto.

Florence Elementary School and the Kenyan village of Pokot will both benefit from this inaugural fundraiser. Pokot is located in an arid region of Kenya, and monies will be used to establish a well which will provide the village with fresh water. Hillcrest’s Florence Elementary will enjoy improvements to their playground landscape with the installation of a garden allowing students the opportunity to learn about and grow plants/vegetables in their new raised beds.

The San Diego Uptown Sunrise Rotary Club meets at Terra Restaurant every Thursday at 7am. Anyone interested is invited to breakfast. Please contact club president, Chris Chase at (619) 269-3413 for more information.

Jerry Sanders acknowledges errors in his financial plan, including claims that raising the retirement age for city workers would immediately save $15.7 million annually. He agreed that such budgetary savings would take years to arrive. The error still has not been corrected on his campaign website.  — (but he sure can raise $$, Sanders is outspending Fyre 3 to 1.) Same-sex marriage & Boy Scouts… Sanders says no & yes — Frye says yes and no.

San Diego candlelight vigil
The names of the Iraq war dead were read aloud Wednesday night in downtown San Diego. People took turns, their voices choked at times. It took more than a hour just to get to those names beginning with H. Protest vigils were held across the country. Antiwar activist (and grieving mom) Cindy Sheehan was one of 26 mourners arrested for laying on the sidewalk outside the Bush White House at a “die-in.”

Iraq war dead
A candlelight vigil will be held at the Horton Plaza fountain today following the 2,000th U.S. military death
in Iraq. American military death toll in the Iraq war reached 2,000 yesterday with the announcements of three more deaths, including an Army sergeant who died of wounds at a military hospital in Texas and a Marine and a sailor killed last week in fighting west of Baghdad. Also Tuesday, insurgents killed six Iraqis — a 7-year-old boy, two Iraqi soldiers and three policemen – and wounded 45 others in a series of attacks in Baghdad.

It began with a clumsy forgery, led the president to backtrack on his own State of the Union address, already has
sent one person to jail and has ruined another’s career as a covert operative....who’s who in the CIA leak probe?
