Warren Simon announces retirement from HBIA

After nearly two decades at the helm of the Hillcrest Business Improvement Association, San Diego’s oldest business improvement district (BID), Warren Simon has informed the HBA board of his upcoming retirement. Simon has been the executive director of the organization since 1989. The previous director was State Senator Christine Kehoe who left the position to run for her first term on the San Diego City Council. The HBA board is outreaching for another individual who is creative, has vision for our community and is up to the task of serving a vibrant and diverse association of 900+ members — an exciting career opportunity for the right person. Do you know someone who would like to apply for the position?

The new executive director will be responsible for managing all programs and projects in accordance with the mission of the organization, prepare grants/funding proposals, monitor all fiscal operations and represent the Association at various public forums. CityFest, Hillcrest Farmers Market, Mardi Gras and Taste of Uptown are among the events that the Hillcrest Business Improvement Association office oversees. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a major role in the future of one of America’s Top Ten Great Neighborhoods.

The selected applicant will have approximately five to seven years experience with nonprofit groups, BIDs, MADs or other related businesses; be proficient in Excel, Word and QuickBooks; and have expert written and verbal communication skills. MBA is a plus. The Hillcrest BID is an equal opportunity employer. Please submit your resume and salary requirements to: Hillcrest Business Association, 302 Washington St, #735 San Diego, CA 92103 or email an electronic reply to the HBA board.
