Nearly 100 supporters of Save Hillcrest gathered at the historic Britts-Scripps Inn for a tribute to Donna Frye on Wednesday evening. The councilmember was honored for her commitment to open government and natural resources, her leadership and voice at City Hall and her recognition of the historical and cultural importance of urban neighborhoods. Donna cast the lone vote of opposition against the 148-foot 301 University Avenue development this fall. A citizen’s group has filed a legal challenge. This was the first fundraiser for that opposition. A crystal vase (at right) was presented with our community’s gratitude as several thousand dollars were raised.
