Mardi Gras

University between Fourth & First avenues
The 9th annual Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party celebration will be held on Fat Tuesday, along University Avenue between First and Fourth avenues. The party, sponsored by the GSDBA Charitable Foundation and the Hillcrest Business Association, will take place rain or shine, from 6pm-11pm featuring live entertainment, special guest performers and an exclusive V.I.P. area. All proceeds will benefit both organizations. Hillcrest Mardi Gras is an annual event for those 21 and over. Ticket prices remain the same as last year with advance tickets only $15 (they will be $20 on Fat Tuesday) and V.I.P. tickets $50 in advance (or $75 day at the event, these tickets include an exclusive reception area and private bathrooms.) Tickets are available at Baja Betty’s — 1421 University Avenue; Urban Mo’s — 308 University Avenue; and Obelisk Bookstore — 1029 University Avenue. The non-refundable tax-deductible tickets may also purchased online. Get your tickets now and $ave! Over 2,000 revelers enjoyed last year’s event.

10:30am — Yoga for Everyone
The class is open to participants of all levels, as well as newcomers. Personalized attention and plenty of options are featured to make sure you have a great yoga experience. 6:00pm — Front Runners
Front Runners provides running and walking activities for the LGBT community. Meet every Monday and/or Wednesday at the southeast corner of Sixth and Laurel under the big tree in Balboa Park at 6pm or every Saturday at 8am.
7:00pm — Transgender Coming Out Group
The group supports transgender people in all stages of exploring one’s gender identity, whether questioning or early transitioning. This is an 18 and up group. The Center is located at 3909 Centre Street in Hillcrest. For more information, call (619) 692-2077.
7:15pm — Men's Discussion Group
The group provides a safe, social and educational space for new or isolated community members to begin to experience decreased isolation, an increased sense of belonging and an opportunity to share struggles and victories. 7:30pm — Lestat’s Open Mic
Chill in the spacious, chic/goth comfort zone of Lestat’s Coffee House in North Park on its open-mic night. Sign up starts at 6pm. The café includes an eclectic collection of overstuffed chairs, chaise lounges and Victorian sofas, good food from its bakery, a furnished reading room and Internet access for the less socially inclined.
