History for Half Pints: Be President for the Day at the San Diego Historical Society in Balboa Park. Lots of presidents have visited San Diego. Dress up like Uncle Sam, take the oath of office and join our patriotic parade around the museum. $5 per child.
10:30am — Yoga for Everyone
The class is open to participants of all levels, as well as newcomers. Personalized attention and plenty of options are featured to make sure you have a great yoga experience. noon-5:00pm — President's Day Family Day Celebration
How well do you know the US President's? Find out in this fun-family, friendly
drop-in program featuring a number of hands-on games, quizzes, and crafts. Activities include: The Road to the Presidency Challenge; Writing with Quill & Ink like our nation's Founding Fathers and Mothers; Designing your own Presidential china, among others. Top off the visit by saying the Oath of Office, and being proclaimed President
for the Day. Museum of San Diego History in Balboa Park. Free with paid museum admission.
5:15pm — Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga is an ancient science that combines postures, movements, breath, stretching, relaxation, meditation, rhythm and sound currents to work on every aspect of your being. This includes the physical, mental and subtle bodies. No previous experience in yoga is required. Dress comfortably, and those with sensitive joints should bring a yoga mat or pillow. Immediate physical and mental benefits are to be expected from the very first session. The free class is hosted by The Center’s Women’s Resource Center. The LGBT Center 3909 Centre Street in Hillcrest.
6:00pm — Front Runners
Front Runners provides running and walking activities for the LGBT community. Meet every Monday and/or Wednesday at the southeast corner of Sixth and Laurel under the big tree in Balboa Park at 6pm or every Saturday at 8am.
7:00pm — Transgender Coming Out Group
The group supports transgender people in all stages of exploring one’s gender identity, whether questioning or early transitioning. This is an 18 and up group. The Center is located at 3909 Centre Street in Hillcrest. For more information, call (619) 692-2077.
7:15pm — Men's Discussion Group
The group provides a safe, social and educational space for new or isolated community members to begin to experience decreased isolation, an increased sense of belonging and an opportunity to share struggles and victories. 7:30pm — Lestat’s Open Mic
Chill in the spacious, chic/goth comfort zone of Lestat’s Coffee House in North Park on its open-mic night. Sign up starts at 6pm. The café includes an eclectic collection of overstuffed chairs, chaise lounges and Victorian sofas, good food from its bakery, a furnished reading room and Internet access for the less socially inclined.
