University Heights History Presentation Evolution of the US Flag

The University Heights Historical Society presents Evolution of the US Flag at Grace Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 3993 Park Boulevard. Educator Shirley Harms will present a brief history of the United States flag, starting with the 13th century British Cross of St. George, to the 50-star flag of 1959. She will also explain the historical significance of the often controversial Don’t Tread on Me flag. The presentation will feature full-size replicas of eleven flags to illustrate many of the steps in the flag’s evolution. Admission is and parking are free. Please enter the church through the back gate and proceed up the stairs to the Fellowship Hall.

  • 7:30am — LGBT Community Coalition Breakfast
    The April LGBT Community Coalition Breakfast will feature Lorena Gonzalez, secretary-treasurer and CEO for the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO. Gonzalez will discuss the Employee Free Choice Act. The breakfast will take place at The Center, 3909 Centre Street. A full breakfast is available for a $10 donation; coffee and tea are complimentary. RSVPs are not required. ASL interpretation will be provided upon request.
  • 7:30pm — Crisis at the Border
    Divided Friendship: Crisis at the Border featuring guest speakers John Fanestil and Christian Ramirez. The Department of Homeland Security is now building a second wall across Friendship Park, the historic location overlooking the Pacific Ocean where for generations residents of San Diego and Tijuana have met to visit with friends and family through the border fence. Final design plans for the park would eliminate permanently all public access to Friendship Park.     The San Diego Equality Campaign is delighted to offer our supporters the opportunity to purchase tickets to opening night of the San Diego Premiere of Zanna, Don't! A Musical Fairy Tale.
