The 9th annual Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party celebration will be held on Fat Tuesday, along University Avenue between First and Fourth avenues. The party, sponsored by the GSDBA Charitable Foundation and the Hillcrest Business Association, will take place rain or shine, from 6pm-11pm featuring live entertainment, special guest performers and an exclusive V.I.P. area. All proceeds will benefit both organizations. Hillcrest Mardi Gras is an annual event for those 21 and over. Ticket prices remain the same as last year with advance tickets only $15 (they will be $20 on Fat Tuesday) and V.I.P. tickets $50 in advance (or $75 day at the event, these tickets include an exclusive reception area and private bathrooms.) Tickets are available at Baja Betty’s — 1421 University Avenue; Urban Mo’s — 308 University Avenue; and Obelisk Bookstore — 1029 University Avenue.     Morena Reservoir and the Pacific Crest Trail in Cleveland National Forest provide access to some spectacular areas of vegetation, including riparian and chaparral communities.     Come celebrate "The Science of You" in Balboa Park. Expo Day is the pinnacle event of San Diego Science Festival (SDSF), the West Coast's largest celebration of science. Science takes over the museums, cultural centers, and the central corridor of Balboa Park with over 300 hands-on activities, demonstrations, experiments, contests, and performances. Expo Day is perfect for families, teens, and adults who are looking for a day of fun and discovery. With activity categories like "Your Art," "Your Body," "Your Planet," "Your Heroes," "Your Discoveries," "Your Sports," "Your Future," and "Your Transit," Expo Day brings something for everyone's curiosity.   • 11:00am — 10 Simple Tips
    Realtor Jim Bietzel and dynamic and sought after local Interior Designer Lynle Hawkins-Struble will host “10 Simple Tips: How color affects and stimulates your mind, body and spirit” at Ascent Real Estate. Bietzel and Hawkins-Struble will discuss how different colors affect peoples’ body chemistry and moods. Attendees will learn how color can consciously be used to promote productivity or create relaxation. The event is free, but a donation of canned or dried food for the San Diego Food Bank is welcomed.   • 11:00am-2:00pm — Marston House Easter Egg Hunt
    It's Easter egg time at the Historic Marston House. The Friends of the Marston House will hold its annual Easter Egg Roll. The festivities include an Easter egg roll, magic shows, face painting, and magicians, and of course no egg roll would be complete without an Easter egg hunt. It is suggested that children bring their own Easter basket to gather eggs with. Each family will also receive one coupon for a free child's ticket to visit the world famous Whaley House Museum, which SOHO operates. The fun takes place at Marston House Gardens, 3525 Seventh Avenue. There is ample free parking on Balboa Drive and the Marston house is only a short walk from there. Tickets are only $5 each or $15 for a family of 4. Tickets are available by advance purchase and at the door. Purchase advance tickets through the SOHO website.
