Now in its sixth
year, OUTFEST
San Diego has established itself as an important and much anticipated
community cultural event. This year the festival takes place
Thurs-Sunday, September 25-28 at the Landmark’s Ken Cinema. In sharp
contrast to a typical visit to the local multiplex, OUTFEST provides
audiences with more than just the screening of a film. During the
four-day festival there are discussions with filmmakers and performers,
as well as receptions and parties for sponsors and festival supporters.
OUTFEST San Diego annually affirms the ongoing integrity and boundless
imagination of the LGBT community and the artists who tell their
stories. Since it’s inception, OUTFEST San Diego has presented 90
international films and videos for audiences of nearly 10,000 with the
majority of the programs presented being San Diego premieres. Each year
OUTFEST San Diego strives
to show the very best from the newest crop of LGBT-themed film and
video
selections available. The filmmakers who participate in our programs
today
are the next generation of artists who will reflect, interpret and
represent
the LGBT experience. Memorable films which have premiered at Outfest
include
Hedwig and the Angry Inch, But I’m a Cheerleader, Ruthie
and Connie: Every Room in the House and The Trip.
OUTFEST San Diego is committed to the celebration of diversity and has
embraced it as a major consideration of their festival programming.
Each year the festival program reflects a wide diversity of domestic
and international views of the gay and lesbian experience, including
communities of color
and transgender issues. The work of OUTFEST San Diego is part of an
ongoing
effort to build a vibrant, affirming and sustainable LGBT community in
San
Diego County.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in all that OUTFEST San Diego has
to offer! In August 2003 a beginning screenwriting workshop will be
offered in addition to the start of an outdoor screening series.
