Here we go! Let’s jump into 2011 with spirit.

Delores St. LouisLet’s start off by attending a unique “Tap/Talk” show at the Gary and Mary West Wellness Center (corner of 4th Avenue & Beech Street). The kick-off show (no pun intended) will be from 9:30 to 10:15am, on Thursday, January 6th, followed by four more January presentations around the county.

The class is being taught by Peggy Padilla who is no stranger to the world of dance. Peggy began her dancing career at age 4, studying throughout the U.S, taught dance for 20 years in Virginia, choreographed and performed in many local theatrical show, and toured with the USO during WWII. I will attend her presentation and review it. It sounds like fun. (Side note: Peggy is also director of the Ms. Senior California Pageant. More about this later.)

Check out the Senior Dances planned for January at Balboa Park Club (off Park Blvd. at President’s Way): New Year’s Dance, Thursday. January 13th (1:00 to 3:30pm), celebrating the New Year with live music by the “Encores”; and the Chinese New Year and Foxtrot Lessons (12:00 to 3:30pm), celebrating the Year of the Rabbit with live music by the Sundance Band. (Foxtrot taught by Russell Maples, 12:00 to 12:45pm.) Just $3.00 admission renders dancing (lessons included), entertainment, refreshment, and door prizes; sponsored by the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department, Senior Citizen’s Services.
