Interim Height Ordinance moves ahead

The Interim Height Ordinance (IHO) will again be discussed at the Uptown Planners on Tuesday, March 4th at 6pm in the Joyce Beers Community Center. The Upas Street extension will be on the table. The Planning Commission will hear the issue on Thursday, March 6th.
The Planning Department is reconsidering extending the boundary of the mandatory height limitation south to Upas Street (instead of Brookes) and will present it as a option to the Planning Commission…who will make their recommendation to the City Council…who will make the final decision for our community.

The current height limit is 200 feet in our neighborhood. The IHO would limit building height to 65 feet (up to six stories). While speaking to the Hillcrest Town Council at their February meeting, Mayor Sanders said he thought the 65-foot limit was a good compromise.
In the past week the IHO Task Force voted unanimously to support the extension of the mandatory height limitation south to Upas Street (they had previously accepted the Brookes Street boundary). The Hillcrest Town Council, which had already been on record supporting the Upas Street boundary, conducted an informal straw poll at the February 12th forum where approximately 110 people were in attendance — the vote in favor of the Upas Street boundary was one vote short of being unanimous.
