A sculpture of Alma Spreckels (“Big Alma”) tops the obelisk in San Francisco’s Union Square. This replica stands across the street in Macy’s. Considered by many Bay Area historians to be the “great grandmother of San Francisco,” the heiress to the fortune of sugar baron Adolph Spreckels (and sister-in-law to SD gazillionaire John D. Spreckels).
