The rains came down…

Crafts and Art tent for senior show in Balboa Park on November 20 & 21, 2010But last weekend’s winter storm did not deter the dozens of dedicated, talented and brave vendors from showing their wares at the Annual Crafts and Art Sales Event.

Although some vendors found it necessary to cancel due to the weather conditions, the event continued and provided a showcase for unique items; such as, beautifully handcrafted ceramics, magnificently painted and decorated gourds, Chinese brush painting, unique birdhouses, a variety of fine jewelry, crochets and knits, quilts and blankets, an abundance of lovely greeting cards and dozens of other wonderful little one-of-a-kind specialty items.

Kristi Fenick and Lewis HigginsKudos go to Kristi Fenick, Supervising Recreation Specialist, and Lewis Higgins, Recreation Specialist (at right); both with the city’s Parks & Rec Senior Citizens Services. Kristi and Lewis really performed their magic in orchestrating the changes that saved the day. We all owe them our thanks. In spite of it all, there was not a tear in the house and the smiles flourished, as last minute changes were made to accommodate the vendors.

This large covered tent was set up in one courtyard, and some vendors were either moved indoors or closer to the building under cover of the walkway. The number of visitors was also diminished by the very wet/nippy weather. But, for those who weathered the storm, the trip was definitely worth it.

Here’s other senior activities around the neighborhood.
