Back up over Robinson Bridge gone

After the two k-rails at Tenth & Robinson were hauled out of Hillcrest by the city on Thursday morning, February 23 the evening commute was noticeably lighter (at 5:20 there were no cars backed up on the Robinson Avenue bridge over Highway 163. Neighborhood activists attached balloons early in the morning to wave “bye bye” as the unwanted k-rails were removed. Last month Gary Pence in the traffic department thanked the community for our Thursday, February 23, 2012...balloons on the k-rails in anticipation of this morning's removal by the citycontinued patience. (It has been a multi-year process, but these ugly cement barriers that have been magnets for trash and graffitti, as well as creating neighborhood congestion, will finally be gone forever.) Hillcrest appreciates the assistance of Gibran Maciel in Assemblywoman Toni Atkins’ office. Several members of the Hillcrest Town Council, the Hillcrest Clean T.E.A.M. and interested neighbors watched the several-hour process and celebrated the removal of the two cement k-rails.
