More than 65 million Americans volunteered last year, but the participation rate has remained flat since 2002 and participation varies widely by state (26.1% of Californians pitch in to help), region and ethnic group. This coming Sunday you can volunteer to help our broke city (and Hillcrest) by pushing a broom for a couple of hours. We’ll even give you cookies and coffee at 9:45…and other stuff, too.
