Unfortunately, a majority of the Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) board of directors believe that height = density = prosperity. At their December meeting the board voted 7-2-2 in support of the city’s “code monitoring team” (CMT) proposal to allow taller buildings if the City’s Planning Commissioners and Uptown Planners approve. Those voting in favor were Alonzo Ortiz (Comerica Bank), Pete Katz ( property owner), Amy Capano (Cathedral), Glenn Younger (Grah Safe & Lock), Michael Brennan (Urban Green), Nick Moede (Rich’s & Numbers), Johnathan Hale (SDGLN.com). Last Tuesday’s decision left many residents (and several former HBA board members) disappointed.

The HBA board is now the only Uptown organization to take a public vote favoring development interests over the wishes of the community. Councilmember Todd Gloria (left) attended the HHG holiday community potluck (held immediately following the HBA meeting) and shared that the IHO will be renewed and that it will sunset with the plan update. (Thanks, Todd!)

Sometime in January the city council will make the final decision. Until then, please sign this petition to extend the IHO, and help save Hillcrest from over development!
