Should Hillcrest really take more density?

Dear Uptown Community Members,

This past summer the Land Use & Housing Committee and the City Council approved the final 180-day extension to the existing Interim Height Ordinance (IHO) and directed Planning staff to return with a new IHO that

IHO passes San Diego City Council July 8, 2008

Uptown residents following the passage of the Interim Height Ordinance

would end coterminous with the adoption of the Uptown Community Plan Update.

Next week staff will be discussing the new IHO proposal with the Code Monitoring Team (CMT). CMT which consists of volunteers representing various community and professional interests provides a forum to discuss issues related to implementation of the Land Development Code and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council regarding amendments to the Code.

This meeting is open to the public: Wednesday, Oct 12 at the City Operations Building, 1222 First Ave 5th Floor, Conference Room 5C from 2-4pm.

If the IHO is not extended until the community plan is updated (the city is in control of this and dragging their feet)…the allowable height for buildings along Fifth Avenue and University will be return to 200 feet. Think how that may affect Hillcrest’s sunlight, winds, density and community character. Since the meeting is on a Wednesday afternoon, most people with jobs will be unable to attend, but if Uptown height matters to you please attend, email or call Marlon Pangilinan in the city’s Development Services Department at (619) 235-5293.
