Uptown Planners tomorrow

An interesting meeting of the Uptown Planners will begin at 6pm this Tuesday, November 6th, in the Joyce Beers Community Center. First up will be an action item for the Interim Height Ordinance — designed to limit the height of new developments until the current community plan, originally prepared in 1988, is updated. The current proposal from Mayor Sander’s office is a mandatory interim height limitation north of Brookes Street in St Paul's planHillcrest.

The second item on the agenda will be a proposed development for the St. Paul’s Cathedral across from Balboa Park that features two high-rise buildings — one at Fifth Avenue & Nutmeg Street and another at Olive. The rendition at the right is shown looking toward the southeast. The City’s Planning Department staff is opposing the project based on airport approach safety, height and design issues. The towers would sandwich the original cathedral and exceed the existing height limitation of 150 feet for this location.
Uptown Planners’ meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at the Joyce Beers Community Center in the Uptown Shopping Center (between the Terra and Aladdin Restaurant) on Vermont Street. All are welcome.
