LGBTQ Historic Context Statement Released

The City of San Diego Planning Department announced the release of the first draft of the San Diego Citywide LGBTQ Historic Context Statement, as well as two upcoming public workshops to present the draft LGBTQ Historic Context Statement and seek public input and feedback.

In a press release, Senior Planner/Liaison to Historic Resources Board Kelli Stanco remarked, “The purpose of the LGBTQ Historic Context Statement is to provide guidance for identifying and evaluating potential historic resources related to San Diego’s rich LGBTQ history. The context offers a broad historical overview on the growth of LGBTQ identities, communities and politics in San Diego and then focuses on themes and geographic areas associated with extant resources within the built environment.”

Your feedback and input on the themes and property types, as well as the properties that have been identified is important. You can view the draft context statement online. More information is available in the attached flyer. In addition, the Draft San Diego Citywide LGBTQ Historic Context Statement is available for review on our website:

If you would like to provide comment or input on the draft, please feel free to contact Kelli Stanco at (619) 236-6545 or kstanco@sandiego.gov.
